Children Struck By Car Block From Massive Fire In Elizabeth: Officials

Firefighters in Elizabeth spent Friday morning, May 3, battling a four-alarm blaze in a three-story residential building, authorities said.

At 6:30 a.m., firefighters responded to 638 Elizabeth Ave., a spokesperson for the City of Elizabeth said. The fire was eventually declared under control. It is unknown how many people will need to be relocated, authorities said.

One block away from the scene, at Elizabeth Avenue and 5th Street, two children and one adult who they were with were were struck by a vehicle on their way to school, authorities said. 

The victims were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
